About the Forest

The Gir Forest National Park (also known as Sasan – Gir,) is a forest and wildlife sanctuary near Talala Gir in Gujarat, India. Established in 1965, with a total area of 1,412 sq. kms. It’s  the sole home of the Asiatic lions in the wilderness, and its considered to be one of the most important protected areas in Asia due to its biodiversity. 

It is a unique and significant wildlife sanctuary, playing a crucial role in the conservation of the Asiatic lions. It attracts wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, and tourists from all over the world, providing them with an extraordinary opportunity to witness these incredible animals and experience the beauty of the Indian wilderness.

Your Itinerary

Day 1

Reach Rajkot and drive to your Resort. Post Lunch we go for our First Jungle Safaris. Dinner and Overnight at the Resort

Day 2

At Gir. We have two Jungle Safaris on this day. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 3

This is our last day and we don’t have safari on this day. Have a Lazy Morning and your Breakfast in the Resort. Check out by Noon.

Our Standard Jungle Trail packages are for 2 nights with 3 Jungle Safaris or 3 Nights with 5 Jungle Safaris.  For 3 Nights / 4 Days Package with 5 Safaris we shall have one more day and would be similar to Day 2. 

We can also customize the package according to your requirements.

Your Gir Jungle Safari

We have some of best Drivers and Guides to take care of your Gir Jungle Safaris. We take care of everything right from booking the forest permits, safari vehicle and expert guides and drivers to ensure the experience of life time. Safaris are for 3 hours. One Jeep Safari can accommodate maximum 6 People. There is a Forest Guide along with you for the Safari to give you the best Jungle Safari Experience.

Gir Jungle Safari Timings

The jungle safari timings at Gir National Park may vary depending on the season and the specific guidelines set by the park authorities. However, generally, the safari timings at Gir National Park are as follows:

  • Morning Safari: 6:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Morning Safari: 9:00 am to 12 noon
  • Afternoon Safari: 3:00pm to 6:00 pm
Gir Safari Zones

Gir Forest or Sasan Gir, does not have designated safari zones like some other wildlife reserves but have 10 different routes from singe gate. The safari tours in Gir National Park are typically conducted in the core area of the sanctuary, where the chances of spotting Asiatic lions and other wildlife are relatively higher.

Climate at Gir National Park

The temperatures in the Gir National Park vary to extremes. In winters, the temperatures go down to 6 º C, while soaring up to a scorching 46 º in the summers. The best time to experience Gir Jungle Trail is between the months of November and June.

How to Reach Gir

By Rail

Junagadh is perhaps the best approach to the park. The railway station in Junagadh receives trains from different cities like Ahmedabad and Rajkot and other major cities. Then, from here it takes approximately one and half hour to reach Sasan Gir National Park.

By Air

Nearest Airport is Rajkot which is approx 175 Kms.

By Road

Gir Is connected by road to all the major cities. Rajkot is approx. 175 kms. from Gir

Wildlife

Besides Africa, Gir National Park in Gujarat is the only place in the world where you can spot lions roaming free in the wild. Gir includes about 38 species of mammals, around 300 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles and more than 2,000 species of insects. The carnivores group mainly comprises the Asiatic lion, Indian leopard, jungle cat, striped hyena, Golden jackal, Indian gray mongoose and Ruddy mongoose, and honey badger. Desert cats and rusty-spotted cats occur but are rarely seen. The main herbivores of Gir are chital, nilgai, sambar, four-horned antelope, chinkara and wild boar. Blackbucks from the surrounding area are sometimes seen in the sanctuary. Among the smaller mammals, porcupine and hare are common, but the pangolin is rare. Sasan Gir is blessed with more than 40 species of reptiles and amphibians. Kamleshwar – a large reservoir in the sanctuary is the best spot where Marsh Crocodile can be seen in large numbers. Park has even many species of snake including King Kobra, the Russell’s viper, Saw-scaled viper and the Krait.
