About the Forest

Kanha National Park or Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of the tiger reserve of India and the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh. Spread in a horse shoe shape, Kanha NP is located in Banjar & Halon valleys in Mandla & Balaghat districts of Madhya Pradesh. Kanha National Park covers area of 1949 sq. km. in total which comprises core zone (National Park) of 940 sq. km. and buffer zone (Multiple use area) of 1009 sq. km. At present, there are four safari core zones (Kanha, Kisli, Mukki and Sarahi) in which tourists can undertake their safari drives.

The Park has a significant population of royal bengal Tiger, Indian leopards, the sloth bear, barasingha, Indian wild dog, wild cats, foxes and jackals and many others. The park has been instrumental in rescuing the swamp deer known as barasingha from extinction.

Overall, Kanha National Park’s combination of wildlife diversity, natural beauty, and the sense of adventure it offers creates an atmosphere of excitement and awe for all who visit. It serves as a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts to protect these precious ecosystems for future generations to enjoy.

Your Itinerary

Day 1

Reach Nagpur in morning and Drive to Kanha. Check in and post lunch we go for the first Jungle Safari. Have evening tea, rest and meet for Dinner. Overnight at the Resort.

Day 2

Entire Day at Kanha. We have two safaris on this day. One in the Morning and other in the afternoon. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included

Day 3

This is our last day and we don’t have safari on this day. Have a lazy morning and your breakfast in the Resort. Check out by Noon.

Our Standard Kanha tour packages packages are for 2 nights with 3 Jungle Safaris or 3 Nights with 5 Jungle Safaris. For 3 Nights / 4 Days Package with 5 Safaris we shall have one more day and would be similar to Day 2.

Your Kanha Jungle Safari

Morning Safaris are for 4 to 5 hours and Afternoon Safari for around 3 hours. One Jeep Safari can accommodate maximum 6 People. Kanha Jungle Safari Timings

Safari timings of Kanha National Park changes according to the seasons. However, during the monsoon season, the park remains shut for tourists as it is a breeding season of the wild animals. Therefore, as a tourist attraction, the park remains open from 1st October to 30thJune. In the winter season, the timings of the morning jeep safari in Kanha National Park starts from 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Whereas, the evening safari starts from 3:00 PM which lasts till 5:30 PM. For the months of Summer, the safari timing changes and scheduled from 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM for the morning batch and 4:00 PM to 6:45 PM for the evening batch.

Kanha Safari Zones

The Core zones:      

Kanha safari zone has open meadows with grasslands and bamboo vegetation that offer some unique sightings. A tourist attraction is Shravan Taal, legendarily known for a place where King Dashrath killed Shravan Kumar mistaking him for a deer.

Sarahi safari zone has dry deciduous forests and with larger meadows. Sarahi is accessed through a common road via Kisli zone and one encounters the towering Saal forests on the way.

Mukki safari zone reports good sightings. The landscape includes saal, bamboo and grasslands.

Kisli safari zone also has the elegant saal forests and scenic grasslands with bamboo vegetation.

Climate at Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park has usually tropical climate, and is warm during the summer, and cold in winter. Winters, temperature ranging between 3º C to 16º C, are the most comfortable season to visit the park, but it doesn’t guarantee good wildlife viewing. Summers (April – June), temperature soaring from 26º C to 42º C, are the best time to view rich wildlife in the park.

By Rail

Nearest Railway Station is Jabalpur. Nagpur would be also a second option as it has good train connectivity with major cities.

By Air

Jabalpur is the nearest airport, However, Jabalpur has limited flights. Nagpur is other well connected airport with other major cities of India.

By Road

Jabalpur is approx. 175 Kms from Kanha. Nagpur is approx. 270 Kms. away from Kanha (5.30 Hours)

Wildlife

The major faunas to be found in the vast serenity of the Kanha National Park are:

Main Species

Mammals:
Tiger, Panther, Chital, Sambar, Barasingha, Black buck, Barking deer, Chousingha, Gaur, Langur, Wild pig, Jackal, Sloth bear, Wild dog.

Reptiles:
Python, Indian Cobra, Russell’s Viper, Indian Krait, Common Rat Snake, Common Skink, Indian Monitor, Fan Throated Lizard and Indian Garden Lizard etc.

Fishes:
Giant Danio, Common Rasbora, Mud Perches, Brown Snakehead and Green Snakehead.

The Reserve brings around 300 species of birds and the most commonly seen birds are the Black Ibis, Bee-eaters, Cattle Egret, Blossom-Headed Parakeets, Pond Heron, Drongos, Common Teal, Crested Serpent Eagle, Grey Hornbill, Indian roller, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Little Grebes, Lesser Adjutants, Lesser Whistling Teal, Minivets, Pied Hornbill, Woodpecker, Pigeon, Paradise Flycatchers, Mynas, Peafowl, Red Jungle Fowl, Red Wattled Lapwing, Steppe Eagle, Tickell’s Flycatcher, White-eyed Buzzard, White-breasted Kingfisher, White-browed Fantail Flycatcher, Wood shrikes and Warblers among many more.
Thousands of bird watchers and ornithologists can get attracted to this amazing bird paradise. The mixed, bamboo and the grassy forests are the perfect spots for bird watching in Kanha National Park. Amazingly, some attractive water birds can also be found near the reserve’s rivulets and at Sarvantal.
