About the Forest

In this enchanting land, Kaziranga stands tall as the realm of giants, revered for being home to India’s big four – the tiger, elephant, rhino, and wild buffalo. Some even consider the rare swamp deer as the fifth addition to this grand list. Kaziranga holds numerous accolades, boasting the highest density of tigers in India and garnering praise for its impeccable management and breathtaking scenery.

Among the many conservation success stories, the Indian one-horned rhinoceros shines as the jewel in Kaziranga’s crown. Once on the brink of extinction in the 1930s, with less than 20 individuals remaining, the relentless efforts of conservationists have led to a remarkable rebound. Now, over 1500 rhinos grace the park, alongside equally thriving populations of wild buffalo and elephants. Kaziranga also reigns as a sanctuary for the wild buffalo, exhibiting the longest spread of horns of any animal in the world.
