JungleTrail, an organization born out of the passion for wildlife, was founded by a group of professionals from diverse fields.
Singalila National Park, located in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, spans 78.6 sq. km at elevations of 2,500–3,650m along the Nepal and Sikkim borders. Known for its rich biodiversity, the park is home to the endangered Red Panda and offers breathtaking views of Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu. It’s a haven for trekkers, with the popular Sandakphu trail winding through its stunning landscapes.
The Red Panda thrives in the temperate forests of the eastern Himalayas, relying on bamboo-rich habitats. With fewer than 10,000 individuals remaining, it’s classified as Endangered due to deforestation, poaching, and climate change. Responsible tourism helps raise awareness and funds crucial for its conservation.
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Singalila National Park
Upon arrival at Bagdogra Airport, our driver will pick you up for a four-hour journey to Manebhanjyang, the entry point to Singalila National Park. From here, you’ll switch to a Land Rover and head to your lodge in Tumling/Kalapokhri for a six-night stay. To ensure smooth entry into the park (before 2 PM), we recommend booking an early morning flight. If arriving late, an overnight stay in Manebhanjyang/Siliguri can be arranged at an additional cost.
Day 2: Red Panda Safari Begins
Early morning, our expert trackers begin searching for the elusive Red Panda while you embark on a guided walk through the trails. You may also enjoy birdwatching along the way. Depending on sightings, lunch will either be served in the field or at the lodge. The evening is reserved for relaxation at the homestay.
Day 3 to Day 5: Exploring Red Panda Habitat & Bird Photography
Your journey takes you deep into the forests of Singalila National Park and the Nepal side, where our trackers scan for Red Pandas and other wildlife. This safari also offers exceptional bird photography opportunities, with expert guidance on capturing rare Himalayan birds. Visits to Tumling for breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga and Sandakphu, the highest point in West Bengal, provide stunning panoramas of Mount Everest and the Sleeping Buddha. You can explore on foot or take a Land Rover ride for a more comfortable experience.
